WHAT'S MONUMENT COORDINATES
Everything Involved in a Successful Fuel Payment Deployment
A fuel payment deployment is not simply a matter of swapping out a terminal. It involves coordinating fuel dispensers, indoor POS systems, fleet card networks, payment processors, fuel distributors, and pump technicians, all of which have their own timelines, requirements, and points of contact.
Most fuel retailers are left to manage those relationships themselves, which creates delays, miscommunication, and installations that do not work correctly from day one. Monument's role is to coordinate every moving piece so you do not have to.
The goal is not to sell you equipment. The goal is to deploy the right solution, configured correctly, with every party aligned, so your fuel operation runs better and your processing costs are competitive.

HOW IT WORKS
How Monument Manages Your Fuel Payment Project
You have one point of contact. Monument coordinates the merchant, pump technician, equipment provider, POS company, fuel distributor, and payment processor behind the scenes.
01
Site Assessment
Monument evaluates your current pump infrastructure, POS system, fuel management system, and processing arrangement. We identify compliance gaps, fraud exposure, and upgrade options before recommending anything. Every engagement begins here.
02
Solution Design
We recommend the right payment terminals and integration approach for your site. We project the cost of the upgrade against the rate savings and liability protection it provides so you can make an informed decision before committing to anything.
03
Coordination & Installation
Monument coordinates with your fuel equipment provider, POS company, fuel distributor, and payment processor to align timelines and responsibilities. You have one point of contact while Monument manages everything behind the scenes.
04
Testing & Certification
We work alongside your pump technician during installation and test every pump after go-live to confirm proper authorization, receipt printing, and integration with your POS and fuel management system. Nothing goes live until it is verified.
05
Ongoing Support
Monument provides ongoing support for your fuel payment systems: troubleshooting, rate reviews, and compliance updates as card network requirements evolve. You have a single Monument contact for payment and equipment questions long after go-live.
WHY MONUMENT PAYMENTS
Working with Monument vs. Going Direct
When you work with Monument, you get a consulting partner who evaluates your site, manages the project, and stays involved long after go-live. Going direct means managing all of that yourself.

For Fuel Distributors
Protecting Fuel Receivables
Fuel distributors regularly extend significant amounts of inventory before receiving payment. That creates substantial financial exposure, particularly when a retailer's payment is delayed or disrupted.
Monument's split funding capabilities are designed to support existing business agreements by routing funds according to the agreed settlement structure. Depending on the arrangement, this can allow a distributor's portion of a transaction to be directed through settlement instead of relying solely on a separate retailer remittance process.
Split funding is a financial tool, not a guarantee against credit or receivables risk. When structured appropriately, it can support payment flow, help reduce the gap between fuel delivery and payment receipt, and work alongside the operating model you already have in place. Monument does not change your supply agreements. We configure payment infrastructure to support them.
Configured Settlement Routing
Split funding can route each party's portion according to the agreed settlement structure, supporting the way your supply relationship is already organized.
Support Payment
Flow
Aligning settlement with your supply agreements can help shorten the gap between fuel delivery and payment receipt.
Supports Reconciliation
Well-structured split funding can reduce manual reconciliation work by making settlement flows clearer for each party.
Supports Existing Agreements
Monument configures split funding to reflect your existing supply relationships. We do not change your agreements.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about how Monument works, what pay at the pump solutions fit your business, and what to expect from the process.
Still have questions?
Monument is happy to walk through your specific situation on a call.
What is the EMV liability shift for fuel pumps?
Visa and Mastercard implemented a liability shift for outdoor automated fuel dispensers (AFDs). If a pump is not EMV-compliant and a fraudulent card-present transaction occurs, the liability falls on the merchant rather than the card issuer. This means non-compliant fuel retailers absorb chargeback costs that would otherwise be covered by the issuing bank. Monument assesses your current compliance status and the cost-benefit of upgrading.
What fleet cards can Monument configure?
Monument configures fuel payment systems to accept major fleet cards including WEX, Voyager (U.S. Bank), and Comdata. WEX is accepted at approximately 95% of U.S. fuel stations. Voyager is the most common government fleet card. Fleet card acceptance is a meaningful differentiator for commercial fuel customers, particularly at truck stops and travel centers.
How does split funding work?
Split funding allows a fuel distributor (jobber) to receive their portion of a transaction directly, separate from the retailer's deposit. This supports the distributor's existing business agreements by routing funds appropriately, improving cash flow, and reducing the time between fuel delivery and payment receipt. Monument configures split funding as part of the payment system setup and coordinates with all parties to ensure the arrangement reflects the existing supply relationship.
Can Monument coordinate with my pump technician?
Yes. Monument works directly with your pump technician throughout the project. We provide accurate boarding information in advance, coordinate the installation schedule, and serve as a single point of contact so your technician is not waiting on answers from multiple parties. Many pump technicians prefer working with Monument because it simplifies their side of the project significantly.
Can Monument work directly with my fuel jobber?
Yes. Monument works directly with fuel jobbers and distributors throughout the deployment. We coordinate split funding configuration, ensure the jobber's portion of transactions routes correctly, and maintain communication with the distributor throughout the project. Fuel jobbers who refer merchants to Monument can also participate in revenue sharing arrangements.
Can I keep my existing indoor POS?
In many cases, yes. Monument evaluates your existing indoor POS as part of the site assessment and recommends solutions that integrate with what you already have where possible. Replacing a working POS system is not always necessary, and Monument will not recommend it unless the integration genuinely requires it.
How long does a typical EMV upgrade take?
A single-location upgrade typically takes one to three days for hardware installation. The timeline depends on the number of pumps, the existing infrastructure, and the solution being deployed. Monument coordinates with your fuel equipment provider and manages the project timeline so you are not juggling multiple vendors.
What is required to accept WEX, Voyager, and Comdata?
Accepting fleet cards requires specific terminal certifications and network registrations. Monument handles the configuration and registration process as part of the deployment. WEX and Voyager transactions through our processing partnership fund the next business day with a 7:00 PM ET funding cutoff, which is faster than the standard settlement cycle at many processors.
Do you work with independent stations or branded locations?
Monument works with both. Independent operators often have the most to gain from a payments review because they may be on less competitive processing arrangements than larger chains. Branded locations have specific equipment and certification requirements tied to their brand standards, and Monument is experienced navigating those requirements alongside the brand's preferred vendors.
