Who This Is For
Businesses That Accept Payments Face-to-Face
A retail store, restaurant, contractor, medical office, and manufacturing company all accept payments differently.
The right payment setup depends on far more than accepting credit cards. Transaction volume, average ticket size, customer flow, reporting requirements, integrations, compliance needs, and growth plans all influence which solution makes the most sense.
Monument evaluates these factors before recommending a payment strategy, ensuring your technology supports the way your business actually operates.

WHY MONUMENT PAYMENTS
More Than A Payment Processor
Most payment companies focus on selling a terminal and opening a merchant account.
Monument takes a different approach.
We evaluate your pricing, technology, workflows, integrations, compliance requirements, and long-term business goals before making a recommendation. Then we continue supporting and optimizing your payment environment long after installation.
The result is a payment strategy built around your business—not a product quota.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about how Monument works, what solutions fit your business, and what to expect from the process.
Still have questions?
Monument is happy to walk through your specific situation on a call.
What is interchange-plus pricing and why does it matter?
Interchange-plus is a pricing model where you pay the actual interchange rate (set by Visa, Mastercard, etc.) plus a fixed markup from your processor. It matters because it is the most transparent structure available. You can see exactly what the card networks charge and exactly what your processor adds on top. For most businesses, interchange-plus is the most cost-effective option because you pay lower rates on debit cards and standard credit cards, rather than a single inflated flat rate on everything.
How do I know if I am overpaying for payment processing?
The most common signs are: you are on tiered pricing and do not know your effective rate, your statement shows multiple fee categories you do not understand, you have not had a rate review in more than a year, or you are paying the same rate on debit cards as you are on rewards credit cards. Monument offers a free statement review. Send us a recent processing statement and we will tell you exactly what you are paying and whether there is a better structure available.
What is PCI compliance and do I need it?
PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is a set of security requirements for any business that accepts card payments. Yes, you need it. Non-compliance can result in fines from your processor and increased liability if a data breach occurs. The specific requirements depend on your transaction volume and how you accept payments. Monument helps you understand your compliance level and maintain it.
What is the difference between a terminal and a gateway?
A terminal is a physical device that accepts in-person card payments. A gateway is software that processes payments remotely including virtual terminal (keyed-in transactions), online payments, invoicing, and recurring billing. Many businesses need both: a terminal for in-person transactions and a gateway for remote payments. Monument configures both.
How long does it take to switch payment processors?
Most processor switches take three to five business days once the application is approved. Monument handles the application, terminal configuration, and cutover. There is typically no downtime. Your old processor continues to work until the new setup is live and tested.
Will there be downtime when switching?
No. Monument configures the new terminal and tests it before deactivating the old setup. The switch happens seamlessly. Your business continues accepting payments throughout the transition.
What is next-day funding?
Next-day funding means the money from today's transactions is deposited in your bank account the next business morning. Standard funding is typically two business days. For businesses with cash flow sensitivity, next-day funding can make a meaningful difference. Monument configures next-day funding where available, including for American Express transactions through supported processors.
Can I accept contactless payments?
Yes. All Dejavoo P-Series terminals accept contactless payments including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and contactless cards. Contactless acceptance is standard, not an add-on.
What does Monument charge for processing?
Monument's processing rates depend on your business type, transaction volume, and card mix. We do not publish a single rate because the right rate structure varies by business. During the consultation, Monument reviews your current processing volume and recommends the most cost-effective structure. We provide a clear, written breakdown before you commit to anything.
What support does Monument provide after setup?
Monument provides ongoing support for every processing setup we configure. This includes troubleshooting, rate reviews, equipment replacement, and optimization as your business grows. You have a direct contact at Monument, not a generic support queue.

Whether you are evaluating payment processing, upgrading a POS system, exploring dual pricing, or integrating payments into your software, Monument helps you identify the right solution for your operation.
